When we at fishknoxville say heavy fish we mean heavy fish:
Typically a heavy charter begins with the pursuit of live bait. Many of our repeat clients tell us watching the skipper catch live bait is part of the show.
Hand size Shad caught with a cast net are just the ticket.
Once the bait tanks have been sufficiently filled ,the skipper will take our guests to locations that are tried and true.
It is the rare day that a fishknoxville boat has clients on board and is looking for fish.
We feel that we are paid to know where they live and prefer to do the looking on our own time.
Our style of heavy fishing is similar to the way Bull Redfish are fished in the Gulf of Mexico. Heavy tackle, up to 40#'s is our preference, large live bait, coupled with slip sinkers and circle hooks round out the terminal tackle.
This style of fishing is a bit more laid back than fishing below the dams, but at the end of the day we feel it is a better all around charter for all concerned.
During the summer months when the Striper fishing slows down a bit, our all-night catfish trips are a real hit.
It is not difficult to catch and release over 350#'s of catfish in a single evening trip. Flathead Catfish and Blue Catfish over 45#'s are common.
Incidentally, fishknoxville's preferred waters for heavy Catfish is the Watts Bar Reservoir, due to the fact that it was closed to commercial catfishing over 20 years ago.
Catfish can so some scary things in 20 years..........
